Why Pro Lock Plus Became a Fully Mobile Locksmith Service

Same locksmith service, new — and old — way of serving you.

We’ve had a lot of people ask why Pro Lock Plus closed its storefront and went back to being a fully mobile locksmith service. Since customers have been asking, we wanted to take a little time to explain.

The short answer is this: going back to mobile service was the best decision for our business right now.

Pro Lock Plus actually started as a fully mobile locksmith service. For our first couple of years, we served customers by going directly to homes, businesses, vehicles, and safe locations. Later, we opened a storefront because we wanted to offer more convenience, more inventory, and more in-person options for our customers.

We had some wonderful customers come through the store, and we are truly thankful for everyone who supported it. But over time, it became clear that the storefront was not sustainable in the way it needed to be.

The storefront came with real costs

Running a storefront is expensive.

There is overhead, inventory, staffing, utilities, equipment, tools, software, insurance, licensing, and all the other costs that come with operating a professional locksmith business the right way.

For the store to make sense, it had to be supported consistently. While we did have great customers, there simply was not enough regular storefront traffic to justify the cost of keeping it open.

That does not mean we did not appreciate the customers who came in. We absolutely did. But a business has to make decisions based on what it can realistically support long-term.

Quality parts and professional service cost more

One of the challenges we ran into was parts and inventory.

We stocked our shelves with parts, keys, remotes, hardware, and products that we had tested, trusted, and were willing to stand behind. That matters because quality is not cheap.

A less expensive part online may look like the same thing, but that does not always mean it will work correctly, program correctly, last long, or be the right fit for the job.

Many customers wanted to purchase cheaper parts on their own and bring them to us to cut, program, install, or make work. We understand why people try to save money. Everyone wants to keep costs down where they can.

The problem is that when customer-supplied parts do not work, it still takes time, tools, testing, knowledge, and labor to figure that out. And when the part fails, is incorrect, or cannot be programmed, customers often do not want to pay for the service time involved.

That puts a business in a difficult position.

We cannot warranty parts we did not sell, and we cannot absorb the cost of time and labor when a part someone else supplied does not work.

“Too expensive” has been part of the conversation

We have also heard the phrase “too expensive” many times.

We understand that cost matters. Locksmith service is not always something people plan for, and many calls happen during stressful situations like lockouts, lost keys, safe issues, or urgent access problems.

But professional locksmith service includes much more than the few minutes a customer may see on-site.

You are paying for training, tools, equipment, software, licensing, insurance, vehicles, inventory, experience, business expenses, and the ability to do the job carefully and correctly.

There is a real cost to doing business the right way.

Sometimes customers compare a professional locksmith business to someone advertising a very low price online or on social media. But a very low price does not always tell the whole story.

Someone offering extremely cheap locksmith work may not be operating with the same licensing, insurance, tools, accountability, overhead, or professional standards. They may also be using low-quality parts, unclear pricing, or methods that can create problems later.

Cheaper is not always safer, better, or more reliable — especially when the work involves access to your home, business, vehicle, safe, keys, locks, and security.

We are still looking for the right people

Another part of the decision came down to staffing.

Finding the right employee for locksmith work is not easy. This trade requires more than showing up for a paycheck. It requires responsibility, attention to detail, problem-solving, professionalism, customer service, and a willingness to keep learning.

Locksmiths deal with people’s homes, businesses, vehicles, safes, and security. That kind of work requires trust.

We are still open to finding the right team members in the future, but we have to be realistic about what the business can support and what level of service our customers deserve.

At this time, going back to mobile service allows us to focus on what we can do well.

Mobile service is not new for us

Going fully mobile may feel like a big change to some customers, but for Pro Lock Plus, it is also a return to how we began.

Mobile locksmith service allows us to come directly to the customer instead of asking the customer to come to a storefront.

That means we can continue helping with:

  • Home lockouts

  • Auto lockouts

  • Business lockouts

  • Residential rekeys

  • Commercial rekeys

  • Door and hardware repair

  • Lock repair and service

  • Safe service

  • Lost safe combinations

  • Safe lock issues

  • Online safe sales

  • Online booking

For many locksmith needs, mobile service simply makes sense. Locks, doors, safes, and vehicles are usually where the problem is happening. We come to you so the issue can be handled on-site.

What this means for customers

Pro Lock Plus is still here.

We are still serving Hubert and surrounding areas. We are still providing locksmith service. We are still helping with homes, businesses, vehicles, and safes. We are still offering online booking. We still offer online safe sales. We are still working to provide professional service customers can trust.

The main difference is that we are no longer offering walk-in storefront service.

Instead, we are focusing on mobile locksmith service and safe service.

Could we open a storefront again in the future?

Possibly.

We are not saying “never again.” We may consider a storefront again in the future if the right pieces are in place to support it.

That would mean the right level of community support, the right staffing, the right business structure, and enough demand to justify the cost of operating a physical location again.

For now, fully mobile service is the best decision for Pro Lock Plus and for the level of service we want to provide.

Thank you for continuing to support us

Change can be confusing, and we know some customers have had questions. We appreciate the patience, understanding, and support as we continue serving the community in a mobile-first way.

To everyone who has booked service, referred us, supported our business, purchased from us, trusted us with your home, business, vehicle, or safe, or simply shared our name with someone who needed help — thank you.
